Donald Trump made a big statement last week. He announced Project Stargate, which was a consortium of three companies: SoftBank, Oracle, and OpenAI. He pledged to make the US the capital of AI. And guess what? The investment was $500 billion.

Fast forward to this week, until yesterday, the world went upside down. Nasdaq fell 600 points. And what caused it? You must be thinking. Well, there’s a new big revolution. It's called DeepSeek AI. DeepSeek is another AI chatbot which just came into being, and they just released it literally a couple of days back.

It caused all the turbulence in the AI world. Back in 2023, the team which developed DeepSeek AI, they basically bought probably 1,000 NVIDIA AI chips, to use for their trading platform.

But unfortunately, that didn’t work out. They thought about how to build a better ChatGPT version. And this is where it all started. They disrupted the whole world with that side hustle. And now, in 2025, they launched the DeepSeek chatbot. Can you imagine how much they built it for?

Just 6 million dollars. Yeah, you heard it right — 6 million dollars. DeepSeek AI is open source, which means any company can take it. They can train the model, extend it, deploy it on their servers, and use it for their own benefits. That’s the beauty. I think the biggest thing about this app is being open source, right?

Let’s take a quick look at what DeepSeek and ChatGPT offer and which is better — or probably which is not.

I’d put it this way: both have their own benefits. ChatGPT is definitely conversational and has a lot to offer. But when it comes to DeepSeek, I think the best thing about it is that it’s very fast and very efficient.

How does it do that? Because it uses fewer chips to process the same results. According to one research, it would take $100 to process 1 million tokens of text, whereas for the same size of text, DeepSeek uses only $4. That makes it very cost-effective.

The second benefit is that if it uses less CPU — which means fewer chips, less hardware, and less energy — everything is proportionate. It’s cheaper, right? It’s more efficient.

However, to wrap it up, we now have two very powerful AI options. Imagine it like this: it’s probably a technology war between the US and China, but who’s benefiting the rest of the world? I’d say let them compete, but we should use the technology for our own benefit and do wonders with it — to help many companies, individuals, and people grow.
